Development Of New Predictive Model To Reduce Postoperative Respiratory Complication

A new study in the July issue of Anesthesiology helped developed a model that could determine which patients are at high risk of developing acute lung injury (ALI). Postoperative ALI is a life-threatening respiratory complication, with an estimated mortality exceeding 45 percent in certain surgical populations. Since ALI has limited treatment options, prevention may be more effective than treating the syndrome. CONTEXT: Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is common in patients with respiratory disorders and interstitial lung fibrosis from diverse disease processes.
