Results from Inhaler Technique Improvement Project confirm benefits of respiratory MURs

Source: PSNC Area: News The PSNC has reported on an analysis of results from a respiratory medicines use review (MUR) project in the south of England, which found that the interventions used led to better asthma control and COPD symptom management.   The Inhaler Technique Improvement Project enabled community pharmacists in the South of England to conduct MURs with people about their asthma and COPD medication.  As part of the reviews, pharmacists carried out asthma control tests (ACT) or COPD assessment tests (CAT) and recorded the results in an electronic system. Corticosteroid insensitivity is reversed by formoterol via phosphoinositide‐3‐kinase inhibition

CONCLUSION AND IMPLICATIONS FM reversed oxidative stress‐induced corticosteroid insensitivity and decreased β2 adrenoceptor‐dependent cAMP production via inhibition of PI3Kδ signalling. FM will be more effective than SM, when combined with corticosteroids, for the treatment of respiratory diseases under conditions of high oxidative stress, such as in COPD.

Anaphylaxis in an emergency setting – elicitors, therapy and incidence of severe allergic reactions

ConclusionsOur data show that food products are frequent elicitors of severe allergic reactions in the general population including children and adults. It unravels a strong underuse of adrenaline by emergency physicians, not reflecting treatment protocols according to the current guidelines. As data obtained from allergists reveal a different rank order of elicitors, this study suggests that food‐allergic adult patients may present a risk population and should receive more attention by allergists.
